Iowa's deep influence in Obama Administration

The Des Moines Register's Thomas Beaumont has a thorough and powerful piece on the influence of Iowans in the White House.

Many names familiar to journalists covering the caucuses pop up not only the West Wing and East Wing but in cabinet duties as well.

A few weeks ago, I profiled Jackie Norris of Des Moines, Michelle Obama's chief of staff for Cityview in Des Moines.

Beaumont delves deeper into the Iowa influence, showing us the enduring power of the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses.

The author, Thomas Beaumont, states: "Iowa's influence means the state's residents should expect prompt and courteous replies to their calls, e-mails and letters"

Wrong. Everyone should be given prompt and courteous replies to their calls, e-mails and letters. The attitude that some deserve special treatment because these employees are from Iowa is a perpetuation of special interest that needs to stop. They work for all US citizens equally, not just Iowans. The same goes for all of Obamas staff.
